NZ National Competition : 2017 Season

Again there were two groups but the number of sides dropped from eight to seven (for an overview of the teams, simply click here). Akarana beat everyone to take six points. Counties-Manukau defeated Canterbury, who in turn defeated Waikato. Waikato then upset Counties-Manukau for two points each.

The lower group had close encounters, with Wellinton losing both games by four points to finish a surprising last. Bay Of Plenty (formerly part of Waicoa Bay and who had replaced Taranaki from last year) defeated Otago (who had replaced the Southland side) 26-24. Hope that's not too confusing but changes are now coming thick and fast.

In the promotion relegation match, the Bay of Plenty had to overcome Counties-Manukau but didn't come close, getting hammered 4-64. The grand final had Akarana taking yet another title, this time at the expense of Waikato 30-4.
