The lower group had close encounters, with Wellinton losing both games by four points to finish a surprising last. Bay Of Plenty (formerly part of Waicoa Bay and who had replaced Taranaki from last year) defeated Otago (who had replaced the Southland side) 26-24. Hope that's not too confusing but changes are now coming thick and fast.

In the promotion relegation match, the Bay of Plenty had to overcome Counties-Manukau but didn't come close, getting hammered 4-64. The grand final had Akarana taking yet another title, this time at the expense of Waikato 30-4.
