NZ National Competition : 2016 Season

This season there were eight instead of seven sides, divided into two groups (for an overview of the teams, simply click here). Group A had the top four and Group B the lower ranked teams. Three of them drew at the top but goal difference put the two Auckland based teams into the final.

Group B now had new teams. The Central team was replaced by a component of that former team, Taranaki. The same happened with Waikato taking over from the larger catchment of Waicoa Bay. Perennial wooden spoon winner Northern were totally replaced by a team from the other end of the country, Southland. The eighth side was a Canterbury Development team. Waikato took the group from Southland and Taranaki came last.
