UK Elite Teams By Season : 2014

Super League XIX (19th) was held with fourteen top flight teams but there were to be pruned to twelve for the next installment in 2015. The two bottom sides had to go! There was enough talent to support the teams but perhaps not so much the money.

League: The 27 league rounds were played and the short straws went to London and Bradford. At the other end St Helens were top, just ahead of Wigan. Huddersfield finished a fine third.

Finals: These were made up of the top eight clubs, which came down to a grand final match between Lancashire arch rivals Saints and Wigan. The former won 14-6 to take both the league title and grand final.

Challenge Cup: Otherwise successful St Helens was knocked out early on by Leeds and holders Wigan fell in the quarter finals to Warrington Wolves. The final pitted the Rhinos against Castleford Tigers, won by Leeds 23-10.

So Wigan and Saints were the best equal of the year. The Wolves and Tigers shares 3rd equal with Leeds just behind. It was a relatively even season with no one totally dominating as has happened at times.
