UK Elite Teams By Season : 2013

Fifteen clubs got on the big hitters list, down one from 2014. All bar one were in the premier competition Super League. That interloper was Sheffield. Super League XVIII (18) was in its second year of no promotion and relegation between Super League and Championship. The 14 teams had been granted licences provided certain criteria were met. The Bradford Bulls were given a one year probationary licence after going into administration. Who realised then how this would continue?

League: Huddersfield came top of the table for the first time since the 1931-32 year. That's quite some time between drinks. Warrington were just behind, then a gap to Leeds and Wigan.

Finals: In the semi-final Wigan and Leeds saw the former through to the final, courtesy of a 22-12 victory. In the other match up, Warrington got past Huddersfield 30-22. Wigan then took out the final 30-16 from Warrington at the Old Trafford Football ground.

Challenge Cup: Wigan's game in the semi-final was against London but it was a very one sided 70-0 victory for the Warriors. In the other very different semi-final game, Hull FC triumphed 16-12 over Warrington. The final was also a low scoring affair, with Wigan taking it out 16-0 over Hull FC.

The points tally in the end favoured Wigan rather comfortably with two trophies. Warrington didn't win anything but was always in the hunt. Huddersfield did take out the league but couldn't quite match that effort thereafter. Hull FC and Leeds deserve honourable mention too.
