International Results (Women) : 2019 May/June

The international calendar for women's RL isn't as busy as the men's but it is catching up. Four matches will make up this summary.

18th May, Istambul, Turkey. Turkey vs Italy

I couldn't predict the score due to a lack of history and form to go by. The match was played at the Beylerbeyi Stadium with the hosts taking an early 12-0 lead. Italy scored just before the break to trail 4-12. Turkey then got away to 18-8 and a late score by Italy was insufficient to take the lead.

Turkey Women 18-14 Italy Women.

22nd June. Auckland, New Zealand. NZ vs Samoa

I watched the full match which was televised on NZ television. The Kiwi Ferns were expected to be too experienced for their island opponents. NZ hit the ground running and were ahead 26-0 in the first half. A late try to Samoa on the half time hooter gave them something to cling to. The second period was a continuation of the first.

NZ Women 46-8 Samoa Women

22nd June. Sydney, Australia. PNG vs Fiji

This was Fiji's first women's international mach so a total unknown as to how they would perform. As it turned out, the lack of experience didn't count for anything as they went in at the break up 12-0. The second half was much the same as Fiji announced their arrival in the women's game with an emphatic victory.

Fiji 28-0 PNG

22nd June. Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. Italy vs Serbia

Serbia were making their first appearance in the sport against a more experienced Italian team. The Serbs had only a few months of playing behind them and the side was comprised of members 18 years of age or younger. Due to that, the 12-0 lead to Italy after the first stanza was a good result for them. Italy then pulled away to win comfortably. The experience will be invaluable for all the players.

Italy 26-0 Serbia Women
