The League: The Leeds Rhinos finished with 50 points out of a possible 56. The Bradford Bulls collected 41, Hull Sharks (FC) 40 and Wigan Warriors 38 points. St Helens and Wakefield Trinity made up the other finals teams.
The Challenge Cup: Picking up the action in the quarter finals, it was Saints 31-26 over Hull, Huddersfield 50-12 versus York City, Whitehaven 10-42 against Warrington and Wigan 20-4 Wakefield. Well done to two none SL clubs getting this far.
The semi-finals were St Helens 46-6 Huddersfield and Wigan 30-18 v Warrington. The cup final pitted two Lancashire rivals against each other with Saints proving too good 32-16.
Grand final action. (BBC). |
The Finals: In the elimination games, Wakefield defeated Hull 28-18 and Wigan did the same in an 18-12 victory over Saints. The two winners went into an elimination semi-final which Wigan took 18-14. That same week Bradford overcame Leeds to go straight into the grand final with a 26-12 scoreline.
The final elimination game had Leeds ease through over Wigan 40-12 to face Bradford in the final. The two top teams from the league made it to the big one where Leeds lifted the trophy with a 16-8 victory.
Summary: Leeds were the most successful team (46 points) winning the league and grand final. Wigan didn't win a title but were always in the mix so deservedly second best (42 points). Saints took the cup final and gained 36 points. Bradford collected 34 points with my scoring system.
