For 2015 the number of teams in the first division (Super league) was reduced from fourteen to twelve. The sacrificial lambs were Bradford and London, the two lowest finishing teams in 2014. A playoff system would decide future promotion or relegation, culminating in a one off match called the Million Pound game (mentioned later).
This was the year of the Leeds Rhinos as they took out the treble. They won the league by one point from St Helens, took out the grand final 22-20 over Wigan and overwhelmed Hull KR 50-0 in the Challenge Cup final. Saints valiantly tried to keep up, with a second in the league and two semi final places but fell short by some distance.
In the million pound game to decide who would gain or regain a Super League spot, Wakefield stayed up with a 24-16 victory over Championship (division two) club Bradford. Therefore the league teams would be the same for 2016 in the first division (Super league).
