NZ National Competition : 2010 Season

The inaugural National Competition was held in 2010, replacing the previous one after an audit done by government authority Sport NZ. There were seven sides for this new national league, playing six games each.

In the first round, the big game was Auckland versus Counties-Manukau in what is a local derby and two top sides. Auckland were the victors 28-16. A big second round result was Wellington defeating Auckland in an away fixture for them 24-18. The surprise of the third round was the South Island losing at home to Waicoa Bay 34-36.

The fifth round an important clash between Counties-Manukau and Wellington had the South Auckland side narrowly win 34-30, a result that would affect who made the final. In the last round of games, Wellington lost again, this time to the South Island despite being at home 20-30. For the final standings, see the chart below.

That brought the two Auckland teams to the final and the one named Auckland took the grand final 14-6.
